It's time for a ChampionSheep

Shaant hojaiye!! Shaant hojaiye!! How can we move forward if we do not handle this problem like the mature and grown up people that we are. We all have collected here together under the same overpowering cloud of a single issue which has been doggedly pursuing the hapless amongst us. Today, we all have come out together in huge numbers, and we will no longer remain the compliant sheep to these humans in wolf skin that prey on our collective fear.  It is time to rise, awake, and stop not till our goal is reached. Our goal is to get the guilty hanged till death.

I mean there have been instances of such brutality before too, in the past. To begin with, we have the Jessica Lall murder, Priyadarshini Mattoo murder and several other murders too which we would not have known if not for the mainstream magazines that cover these stories in complete detail and render an important societal function by fulfilling our quest for understanding our society better.

But the examples I gave before are distinct in their facts and the present matter is separate if you understand the term, “case-to-case basis”, i.e.,. Let me elaborate it a bit more so that better clarity is achieved by us all collectively. Remember, we need to move collectively on every issue, every question, every answer, every approach and every understanding. Coming back to the earlier elaboration that I had left hanging mid-speech, I would like to create a distinction between the present matter and the previous instances of gasping cruelties.

All such instances as given a few minutes before were crimes committed by those who are in power and position, have money and influence, pull and push, tug and tuck, black money and white honey. They are after all the movers and shakers of India, and are an important cog in the wheel of our industrial wagon that has to catch up on decades worth of development. They are required to infuse sufficient money, benefits and power in order to keep our number one democratic system well oiled. In light of the important functions served by them, we are obliged to fold our hands and wish them well and leave out the backyard whenever someone amongst them goes wayward.

But in the present matter, the crime was committed by two sabjee wallahs and five biharis? *guffaws*, i.e., people with no power, money, influence, I mean, nothing at all? How dare they do it?  Moreover, how could they do it in South Delhi? A shopping haven that we from our hard work and collective business acumen have developed much to the envy of the rest of Delhi. It was supposed to be a SAFE PLACE!!!! Its understandable if this happens in some corner of a jungle in the forbidden forests of some conservatory infested by naxals or poachers. You may think our collective and extreme anger is unjustified and the police force may be arriving shortly to disperse us with extreme prejudice. But, But, But, let me explain how my anger is just. Remember, as a kid, whenever we had gotten into fights with other kids, our parents would first beat us, rather than beat the other kid(s) even if we turned out to be right? That is why, we, who have been sheep all this while can express our anger only against fellow sheeps. Let a wolf-hunter do the job with wolves.

Anyway, *oooogulpuplblubppp* *aaaaaah*  FUCK THA POLICE. DOWN WITH THA SYSTEM!!!

  1. An excellent satire. Had I been an editor, I would have had it published.

That said, my only suggestion is that you should have brought out more focus regarding the prevalence of such activities and a dearth of response by the public. Right now, the focus seems to begin with such an idea in the backdrop but somewhere along one discerns an abrupt thematic shift towards 'class-oriented' bias of the society.

So one ends up being confused, whether you intend to point out the widespread nature of this crime or whether you see the society as submissive to elite. Because, if you attempted to do both then by the time your piece got ready for the punch, it abruptly shifted.

That ends my 'literary crtique' of substance and form.

Now, my question to you regarding what I discern as your incessant demand of 'purity of motivation'. Wait, don't jump from your seat. I would explain in short, what I intend to say.

My disagreement with you is not the validity of the either point you have raised in the satire. I wholeheartedly agree with you on both the counts. My disagreement is with what I sense as a demand of 'purity of motivation' among those who are partaking in the protests, the society around you generally and yourself as well.

The ridicule on the public is not only because of the 'myopic' nature of demands as well as high degree of ignorance. But it is on the ground that their motivations are not wholeheartedly dedicated to the cause but more out of the mass hysteria that has come about the whole issue, thanks to dedicated social activists and 'outrage machine' called indian news-media. This subtle strain of attributing lack of 'intention' to criticise the protestors is fallacious.

Why? For a simple reason. One can challenge the arguments presented by any group, whether it is prime time or not. But it is another matter to assess the intention behind such arguments and assail the arguer. Though in law, such things maybe prevelant but that neither makes them ethical nor in any way advances the benefit of the society.

But that is what I believe in. I wont ask protestors to establish to me that their motivations are as pure as they could be regarding the issue as long as there exists willingness to deliberate and follow through the initiative even after the dust settles.

By the way, great piece of writing. Your writing has significantly improved over the last two years. I write this compliment every 6 months because your learning curve forces me to do so. *touch wood* and all the best !!!!! keep writing.
