Bringing Honour to Women

A society can stay sane and in social balance if people followed a just Give-n-Take policy vis-à-vis each other on most matters. You give something, you take something. That principle is in full bloom and play in our socio-political sphere. You give your votes to politicians; they take away your resources. That’s give and take at work in India. This brings me to Congress’ Youth Icon. There is one thing about Rahul Gandhi that I tend to appreciate. Which is, that after being empowered by women (Read Sonia Gandhi & Priyanka Vadra), Rahul Gandhi, thinks of nothing more apart from "empowerment of women", thus giving back to them. A testimony of that thinking was evident in his confidence that he will brave through the tempest, that is an Arnab’s spittle-laden high decibel interview, by floating on the plank of Women Empowerment. His insistence on women empowerment has already started bearing fruits. Did you all really think Narendra Modi admitted to having a legally wedded wife after a Supreme Court order on full disclosure? Since when did our politicians start listening to Court orders?

But politicians do listen to each other and try to even outdo the other in every respect possible. Mulayam Singh’s anti-rape law remark few days before was outdone by Abu Azmi’s calls for hanging women who bomb innocent victims out of religious hatred. Sorry, I was just kidding. He wants women to be hanged for a much more heinous crime, which is fornication. And before too, Mamata Didi had declared that occurrence of rapes is increasing in India because men and women interact too freely these days. They of course should not be seen together. Extending that logic, I guess Samajwadi Party and Trinamool Congress are never going to be part of a third front coalition. Those remarks follow on Chautala’s views that relaxation of child marriage laws will reduce incidents of rape and another Haryana Minister’s view that 90 percent of rapes occur because girls willingly accompany boys only to be trapped by rapists.   So really what’s the difference between some of our politician’s brains and MH370? The Malaysian plane still has hopes of being located.

Crimes against women occur at alarming rates in India and especially so in Uttar Pradesh which boasts of a third of all crimes that occur in India. But Samajwadi Party’s ministers are only concerned about protection of Buffalos. But when I read about Ayesha Takia’s umbrage at her Father in Law’s views about women who fornicate, I realized to my utter shock and disbelief that Abu Azmi has women too in his household, including any possible birth-giving mother. I was disappointed after realizing so because I had convinced myself that Abu Azmi stayed for nine months in a magic lamp and came out after being rubbed the right way.

BTW, India lost the T20 World Cup final against Sri Lanka this year and a major reason for that failure was attributed to Yuvraj Singh. So, ardent cricket fans threw stones at Yuvi’s home to exact their frustration at India’s loss. Yes, doing that will definitely get India back its lost T20 WC. Don’t be surprised at the positive consequences that can result from vengeful stone-throwing. Stone-pelting is really effective, ask the Kashmiris. Aah, Kashmiris!! Only they could resort to such banalities. Indians instead like to believe in democracy and the greatest proof of that is the fact that those responsible for our democracy like 2G Raja, CWG Kalmadi, Ever-green Mayawati, Mulayam Singh Yadav, Abu Azmi, Azam Khan and etc., etc., have never been thrown stones at, despite giving us scams and weird thoughts of incredible proportions. People don’t want to scare them into exiles of their private palaces built from public money by pelting stones at them. People really wish of them to remain constantly involved in the muck which people have to deal with on a daily basis. But I guess exceptions can be made to that rule and we all can start pelting stones starting from Azam Khan’s house. Then, he will always ensure that India wins. I hope you realize I am not talking of Cricket any more ;) ;).

But really, I think we all are going overboard with our reactions to what these ministers have had to say. They had an occasion to speak and they said some things. Let us just keep it at it and forget about it. After all, Boys are Boys. They make mistakes.
